Stop Buying Things
Start Buying Time

We're leaving our corporate jobs and selling our home to travel full-time, raising and educating our children using the world as our classroom

Who are we?

We are a family of five who have decided to leave our corporate jobs and sell our home and most of our possessions to travel full-time, learning about the world and ourselves as we go. We’re designing a lifestyle to live life to the fullest now and adventure with our children instead of waiting for some deferred plan (which most people call retirement). The parable of the Mexican fisherman explains this best.

That sounds kind of crazy!

Maybe it is, but the future is never guaranteed. Why not live life now and have treasured memories for a lifetime? We want our kids to be citizens of the world, and we need to expand our own horizons too. This type of lifestyle was not even feasible with our parent’s generation, so why not be modern-day digital pioneers?

Isn’t that really expensive?

Life in a big house in suburbia is expensive! Once you let go of that ideal and free yourself from those fixed costs then a life of travel is surprisingly affordable if you pick the right destinations. We are not independently wealthy, but we have been good savers and we’re confident that we can earn an income from anywhere in the world with just a laptop, smartphone, and a good internet connection. Believe it or not, traveling the world can be cheaper than staying at home!

The Parable of the Mexican Fisherman

I’ve written about how reading Tim Ferris’ 4-Hour Workweek book was a critical element of even understanding that this lifestyle was possible. But there was one particular passage in the book that hit me like a ton of bricks. I think it was profound because the parable so closely reflected our current life/career trajectory. You see,…

The Book That Started it All – The 4-Hour Workweek

That Nomad FamilyJul 17, 20205 min read
